Hi Guys I'm a complete beginner and am having some trouble burning a holiday DVD,everytime I insert the DVD to copy' IT starts to play and whatever I do it will not burn, I have recently downloaded a free DVD ripper called burn4free but it has been of no use at all. Any help will be gratefully recieved, but please keep it at idiot proof level as I not too familiar with most of the language that you guys use.

Thanks again

Holiday Dvd? Like a home video or a purchased movie? Need some clarification.

If it's an unprotected Dvd; you can use the freeware burner Imgburn to make a copy of it.

If it's a commercial dvd you purchases it will need to 'ripped' first with a program like DvdFab Hd Decrypter.

Yes its like a home DVD, but was made by the tour guide on the day, but I think it must be protected in some way otherwise I would be able to burn it wouldn't I? I will try the freeware burner you have suggested and let you know, Thanks for your help

If you want to stop it playing when you put the disk in you need to turn off the drives autoplay function..

open "my computer" and locate the drive, then right click the icon and go to properties... somewhere there you will find a box called "autoplay" .. just untick the box ;)

Doubtful it is protected in any way.. If you have problems with it, say because it has damage or similar then usually you can expolre the disk (rather than opening it) and copy the video_ts folder to your hdd.. then add an empty audio_ts folder you can make yourself and burn them both to the disk as a data dvd... That seems to work happily on 99% of standalone dvd players.
