After windows XP boots up and I click on any of the user names in desktop I get userinit.exe- Application Error, the application failed to initilize properly (0Xc0000005) click on OK to terminate the application. I have tryed it in safe mode and still the same thing. That all I can get this computer to do.Any ideas?
If i was in your position & lets say i did'nt have access to another comp where i could save any data i need,i'd install linux in some spare space & get my data onto dvd or whatever then i'd reformat.
It would'nt hurt to put ubuntu (my choice there's others you can choose from that are also free),into the spare space again after install of windows,it lets you use your comp if windows borks.
you can also retrieve data by using the live cd but i've never tried it.
I saw those. They say maybe a problem with memory.I pulled each memory 1 at a time and restarted but got the same with all memory sticks.I think it is a bad virus. I found that after I get the error and click on ok I get the screen saver and cant do any thing more.I found on a other site that If I do ctrl+alt+del I get task manager. Then click on file-new task(RUN) then typ the following-Exploer.exe I get the desktop and can go online.I updated avast and did several scans and foundseveral infected files but still get the same error.I think it is badly infected. My 16 year old son uses this computer and has ben on bad sites. This may take some time to fix.
Reformat is your safest recourse & certainly the quickest in the long run,if you decide to do so make sure you have your serial keys saved for re-activation for any bought programs, then setup the comp so your son is on a limited account, that means the admin account is passworded which only you can access, this will stop unwanted or unknown programs from installing
ok other things to consider, the most important is cloning software the first two allow images, basicly you can save drive C to DVD,not the whole thing it only needs the data, works well for both, saves the need of getting another hdd if that's an issue
ghost
acronis
or free alternative
xxclone
firewall: very strong read reviews it's my fav
comodo
antivirus all free for personal use:
mmm normally i would'nt recommend avast, in this instance however i'll make an exception, reason being it's the only one i know that scans every act any app makes including in the boot process
others are
AVG 8.0-Had an issue early in the year but is now sorted, should'nt slow system down
clamwin antivirus
Avira antivirus-the only con for this is it's bloody ad asking you to upgrade to pro every now & then
Spyware detectors :there's only one i'd bother with, tried spyware blaster,ad-aware,spybot & others i settled on
spywareterminator-make sure to enable HIPS in the 2nd tab along
Yeah well that's my opinion anyway it's also the very same as i use for the most part, comodo & spyterm will let you know if anything attempts to install,if you get infected it boils down to someone letting the scanners install it as you have to allow the process as the scanners will automatically block it
these are on my systems
ghost & acronis
comodo
spywareterminator
clamwin
if you have a NAT router you could turn on it's firewall, but dont ask me how to configure it,i tried with mine but could'nt make head nor tail of it..lol..
EDIT: Forgot to mention apart from my posts getting more long winded..lmao..for best performance, after reformat install the most used programs first before heading off to windows update, then don't leave win update till fully patched OS is achieved,it would pay to download any 3rd party software like firewalls etc & install before updating OS.
