So I was trying to burn an .avi file to a DVD-R today and my computer decided to blue screen. Now when it goes to the windows loading screen the computer restarts and starts that cycle all over again. After trying to boot it into Safe mode. I was able to start safe mode with the command prompt and with the basic settings. If I tried to boot reg. or into safe mode with network settings I blue screen once again and it starts the cycle once again. I am running a dual core AMD 3800 not sure if that will help or not. Also when i boot into normal safe mode I can log into the Administer Login name and it'll boot fine. If I load into my name it will lock up. This is all I've been able to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Luckily my wife just purchased a laptop so I can use these forums :P. Once I get into windows I'm going to back things up and then reformat. But there are files there that I need to back up. Thanks guys in advance.

A couple of other things, It will not allow me to use system restore I figured that'd be the easiest thing to do. Also I can't use the system disk to repair.

Booting to safe mode then disabling automatic reboot in the list should let you see the error numbers which in turn tells what piece of hardware is failing

You could just remove the hdd & either use a external housing (i use the one that can be taken apart i.e. sides & top, uses the big thumb screws,it works better than those useless USB adaptors that have the SATA or IDE plug on the end),it's a quick way of retrieving data but also discounts whether it's the hdd on the way out

Where is that setting for the auto reboot? I'll have to go and buy an external so that I can back things up. I'll post the error code and google it hoping that it's nothing more than a stupid HDD problem.

When you get to selection screen in safe mode it should be the 3rd or 4th option down,it says "disable automatic reboot on hardware failure" or wording to that effect, however if you can get into windows you can disable by
RIGHT click on MY COMPUTER,select PROPERTIES,select ADVANCED tab,hit SELECT button in START UP & RECOVERY,when window appears de-select auto reboot on system failure,it would pay to do this also when you have your system backup & running

Alright, I was able to get the codes from the BSoD. The thing is that there would be a different code each time it'd happen. I know some of these codes are driver related and others are corrupted NTFS files. The t hing is the computer has been sitting the way it is for about 4 months now. Here are the codes:

0x00000024
0x000000D0
0X0000007E

I didn't include the other codes at the end of these. These are the main "stop" codes. I'm hoping reformatting will fix this. If not then time to get some new parts =P

why are you still using XP Pro SP1? update to XP SP2 or XP SP3 as most of those BSODs may be fixed in either SP2 or SP3.

No need to waste money on another install disk when it's not needed, you have option of using SP3 iso onto rom or just make your own custom install disk that incorporates all drivers & patches for the comp in question etc
