I believe they offer free shipping for order over $50. I took advantage of that feature twice already and the shipping speed within the US is lightning quick.

That's interesting, My Local Best Buy has had a Staples right next door for years. Makes media shopping alsost a 1 stop shop.! And, Office Max here is about 2 miles from there, with Circuit City in between. BTW: Circuit City is going downhill fast. They only stock Crap Media anymore.
Hate it that Staples changed their ink cartridge policy. Oh well, I just express my dislike of it to the Mgr. when I see Him. It doesn't do any good, but makes me feel good though!

bunnyrip-sometimes it does ? Complaining I mean ! I was in New Orleans visiting Family several Eons back and Compusa ( Phooey Patooie ) had Imation CDR's in the Hundred Pack's onsale ! Those were my cd Burning years ! anyway I called the local store to see if any were left and they said they had about two packs left . So I said I'm coming to get one ! even thought it's local it's still about a 20 mile trip ! so off I went ! When I get to the store No 100ct. spindles I ask the associates for help? And they direct me to a corner endcap shelf and none or there ! when I called on the Phone they said That If they were out I could get a Rainchek ! So I ask for One . WE don't do that the associate says !!!!! What ? That's not what they said on the phone I told them ! Who did I talk to they asked? I don't know but I called the no# in the yellow pages and that's what the person who answered told me ! Well then the associate says oh!! That's number is for our store in Dallas Tx. to get this store you add a zero in front ! Seeing it was a Loosing game I mumbled several expletives and left ! I was disgusted But was going to chalk it up to experience ! But encouraged by my family I wrote a Scathing email to compusa describing their ineptitude and poor customer relations and support in spades !!!! well a few days later I get a reply from them very apologetic and sorrowfull that the wan't to make amens and that I should take the reply they sent and print it ! and bring it to compusa and they'll give me the CDR's at the sale price even though the sale was way over ! Okay I go to the closest Compusa to where I live which was the baton rouge La. store I go in Go to the Media section Pickup a 100ct. spindle and I'm talking to the Mgr. who was very helpful and a nice person ! I go to Check out & then They wanted to charge me full Price ! NO no I said And showed them the email ! The Mgr. says oh yeah that's the mgr . from the new orleans store ! We don't have to honor that he does! He was'nt smarmy or smart assed about it ! I explained that I live past Baton Rouge and I'm not driving to new orleans just for that ! But I told him that I appreciated his honesty ( Rare in any bussiness) and his help ! and I would continue to shop his store when I needed some supplies ! Because at the time I liked his store ! He tells the sales Clerk to ring the spindle up at the sale price anyway Though!! so sometimes complaining helps! I had a run in with the store nearest me years later over a deffective hdd and bitching did'nt help that time !! but it never hurts to try right ? besides they got their Karmic Just desserts in the end anyway !!!

Yes, I agree, The Universe has away of taking care of things & making them right in the end. As far as My Local Staples, the mgr. won't budge on the ink cartridge thing. He states that the $3 ink cartridge credit will be applied to a Staples Rewards card. Period. No $3 off purchases. I told Him, "Fine, I'll go to Office Max then where they will give me $3.00 off purchases". He didn't care.
This is funny too: I was in there one day & watched a young black dude steal something, saw him do it clearly. I told the mgr. and He said, "We don't try to catch these guys, too much risk of an employee getting hurt". When I was growing up, if someone got caught shoplifting, you're going to be arrested! The store had no problem chasing you down. I've seen it happen many times! This kind of, "Let em steal it" attitude makes the price higher for everyone. Lame.

bunnyrip- On the shoplifting thing I hear ya! The manager was looking out for lawsuits ! Liabilty ect. many mgrs. don't want to get involved which makes it hard to complain or get action on a situation be you a customer or employee !!! sad But True ! you've got the right Idea !!! though Vote with your wallet !!! Money talks as they say And you let the mgr. know yours talks just as good elsewhere !!! Bravo Buddy!!!

Everyone just loved to b*tch about CompUSA especially around here. But now that they have gone we really notice the void they left. There's no true "Computer" store left. Just Best Buy, Office Max, Circuit City and those like them. Need a cable on Saturday... Now we have to wait till Monday when the wholesale shops open or wait till it's shipped in. What's really missed is the sales that CompUSA ran and the other stores had to answer. The other weekend my brother's computer needed a new DVD burner. I stopped at Best Buy and couldn't believe the price of their drives. When CompUSA was still in business you could get one on sale for around $30. It was good enough for home use... Now Best Buy's cheapest one was $65. I ended up pulling one from the shop and replacing it. To make matters worse I doubt we will get another large computer retailer in our area. There's not going to be much investment going on in the next 4 years. The only thing that's going to be going up is our taxes!!!!
Take that back... Add unemployment to the list! My company has been looking at moving to Ireland. Wonder how the weather is there???

newegg and zipzoomfly are both good online stores to deal with. Can't beat their prices and speed of delivery. I've bought from both and I got exactly what I ordered and fast. When it comes to blank media, I like to go to Best Buy, CCity, Staples or Office Max. Then I can read the labels and see what I am actually getting. As for hardware; The online stores have em all beat on prices.

This was in Staples or CC? That's absolutely ridiculous. The manager would be in trouble if people higher up found out. Most chains have zero tolerance against shoplifting. You get caught on camera, they stop you at door and call the cops. End of story!

It was at Staples. Dude just simply got away with it, even after I reported Him Stealing it. Pissed me off. The mgr. said it was "policy" NOT to pursue shoplifters. I told Him He was an idiot.

AFAIK, if you can detain the shoplifter in the store. i.e. your property, then an arrest can be made. If he is out the door, pursuing him and/or physically harming him will bring grief to you and yours as he could turn around and sue you and your store and God knows who else. Welcome to the litigious land known as the USA :(

Sad but true. In this USA, the Laws seem to be there to protect the Criminals. God Help us.

Remember the story in NYC where a cab driver pinned a robber, who had mugged an elderly, against the wall with his cab bumper while waiting for the cops to arrive from Dunkin Donuts? He was sued by the robber afterwards and lost his shirt as a result. As you said, sad but true :(
