Three times now, my CPU usage has shot to 100% and stayed there until I turn my computer off. A look at the task manager tells me it is ScanningProcess.exe. Which is odd because nothing is scanning. I checked all my anti-virus/spyware software and there are no scans going on. It only happens after my computer has been on for a few hours and it does not go away until I turn it off. I've searched for a solution and have come up with little. I speculate it may have to do with my Zone Alarm Security Suite because other people have cited it as the source of their problem but they've said they had two instances of it running, whereas I only have one. I've had ZL for years and have done nothing differently recently. I don't know why this would start.
do the msconfig.exe command from run and then go to the stratup tab, and have a look to see if there is two zone alarm in the. if there is disable one of them and try and boot up and see if that works.than all you can do is see how it gose.
Thank you for your help. I did not have two running. I'm just about certain it's got something to do with ZL, though. Because the first time it happened, I closed down ZL and, after a while, my CPU usage went back down.
Also, I can't end the process from the task manager. I forgot to mention that. It says access denied.
Recently I was having the same problem of the cpu (amd dual core 4800) always being at 100 percent (both cores) even with no programs running. I also have a tv tuner card on my computer and the software for the tuner card was crashing everytime due to a problem with the motherboard built-in soundcard. I also suspected my firewall or antivirus as the problem of the high cpu usage but couldn't trace it down.
When I installed a $14.95 pci soundcard on my motherboard, that fix my tv tuner crashing problems, and it also fix my high cpu usage problem. My cpu usage is back to a normal 10 percent with no load.
Maybe your problem is also hardware related. In my case it was by accident that I fix the cpu problem while fixing what I thought was an unrelated problem.
