Searched high and low for this issue, but didn't find any truly relevant answers. I just finished performing some major surgery on my Version 7 PlayStation 2, but I have a little issue. When I eject the tray, it will eject fine, but it jitters a bit, but then when I press the Eject button again, the side closest to the controller ports goes in, but the side next to the Power/Eject module gets stuck, and I have to push the tray up in order to get it to close. Is this the result of the tray being misaligned?

How much surgery did you do? Sounds to me like the cd drive isn't aligned right inside the metal casing. Did everything go back together smoothly or did it struggle a bit?

I had to add in a new controller port, replace the ribbon cable that links the motherboard to the Power/Eject assembly, solder the wires from the fan to a USB cable, as the connection to the fan on the board broke. In all of this, I had to practically take the entire machine apart piece by piece. What's odd is that when I first powered it on, the PlayStation 2's tray was working perfectly, but later on, it started to jitter when it was ejected, and struggled to get back in, most of the time, only the left would go in and the right would jam unless I pushed the tray up.
Putting the unit back together was a little problematic, so maybe the tray DID get misaligned. I'll take it apart now to realign the drive.
While we're on the note of PlayStation 2 repair, I also have a Version 2 that needs repairs. Its problem: no video or audio. It won't output video through either Composite, S-Video or Component. I heard that is has to do with a blown fuse. So I checked the fuses that are supposed to be the most problematic(according to here, motherboard number GH-005: http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=ps2repair), and found that not a single one has 0 resistance, they all had 00.1 resistance, except for fuse PS401, which gave a reading of 00.2/00.3. I presume that's the faulty one?

Quote: solder the wires from the fan to a USB cable
I'm sure it's too late for this, but you do know you can just solder the two broken ends of the fan wire to the two solder points in the front of where it clips in? Works every time. And if it's too late, it's a tip for next time.

Hmm..where the screws to the outside of the case difficult to get in at certain spots?

Check all the fuses. Take your time with it and use the continuity feature on your meter. It's a lot easier then holding the meter points steady on each side of the fuse while looking away at your meters reading. Using the continuity feature is the simplest way to do it. If it rings, the fuse is good.
Let us know what you find out.

Actually, no. I wasn't aware of that. I don't even know where the fan plugs into the motherboard! I searched the entire thing for a connector that matches that of the fan, but couldn't. I only know its placement on a GH-002 motherboard.

Not hard to get in, but hard to screw in. Yeah... the drive's most probably not properly aligned.

Haha it's on there somewhere :) It looks exactly the same on all of um. Chances are its somewhere near the area where the fan is located when the ps2 is back together. Probably by those 4 prongs that plug into the power supply.

I checked around there and found absolutely nothing that corresponded to the fan's plug. That white/beige or whatever color it is piece was nowhere to be found next to the 4-pin power supply input.
UPDATE: I currently have the PlayStation 2 open with the top off, and the problem with the misaligned tray is a problem with the drive itself, not the drive being improperly aligned with the casing. I would assume that something's probably broken on the tray itself.
UPDATE 2: Holy crap, the tray just came out of the system(the drive's top cover was off). Upon inspection, I've found a crack on the track where the white cog sits. Something tells me that crack causes the tray to get stuck while closing.
UPDATE 3: I found that the metal stick placed on the left side of the tray wasn't properly holding. So now, I'm in the process of replacing the tray with the one in my Version 2 PlayStation 2.
