Just installed Ubuntu last night, trying to change some of the looks of the desktop, and from what ie read theres something called Gnome that already comes installed, problem is i don know how to find it, used google for this but still nothing

gnome IS the desktop ;)

look at http://art.gnome.org/ and in synaptic for gnome theme related packages..

From your menu, probably on the top left of your screen:

System -- Preferences -- poke around

for video stuff and viewing flash on web pages, check these few online resources:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

open Synaptic (System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager). Search for vlc and install it. vlc-plugin-esd, mozilla-plugin-vlc, and libdvdcss2 should come along with it.
After completing, launch vlc player from (Applications -> Sound and Video -> VLC media player )

Open the terminal, type or copy and paste this:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

have fun...
