Whatever is the best for you?.. is the BEST.

You may get 50 answers on here and all of them will differ.

Use Google and search for -> free antivirus review

And see what they say about them. Then make up your own mind?.

Try them out, if you don't like it..... Try another.

Ok, thanks, i just saw that you recommended Comodo BOClean in another thread, and was wondering if you'd recommend that across the board.

Yes, I do.

I have a 5 step malware block on my computer and NEVER get an infection.

1. Firewall - comodo
2. Host file - MVPS
3. Antivirus - Avira AntiVir
4. AntiMalware - Comodo BOClean
5. HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Software) - WinPatrol

That's it. They are all free and they all work.

P.S. That's why I come to this forum and help the Malware Collectors clean their machines.
Life is so boring when you never get any Viruses, Trojans, etc.

@2oG

Thanks for the info. Like i said, just got a new computer and I want to make sure it's fairly secure before I let the kids loose on it.

I got a virus on the old one a few months back and ended up having to reformat eventually, so don't want anything to happen to this one.

Thanks again :)

Don?t turn the kids loose on it without:

Setting up their own Limited accounts.

Install K9 webpatrol ? It blocks bad language, porn sites, and anything else you would like to keep them away from? Plus it?s free for home use.

They're fairly sensible, 13 and 15 and i check up on them sometimes, so i don't really want to have to limit them.

They'd probably be insulted, it's a trust thing. :)

you need to keep it simple

1. avg 8.0 free is excellent
2. any inboard/outboard protection firewall will work
3. firefox 3.0 browser (this will prevent many attacks just by itself)
4. returnil (free virtual system)

You don't need any antispyware software (it will slowdown your computer overall even when your not on the internet)

The free "returnil" program is excellent because when it's engaged it seperates the internet from your hard drive. Everything will run in system memory and you won't tell the difference from the real and virtual computer. If a virus is downloaded or the wallpaper is changed when the computer is rebooted everything is back to normal. It's very easy to use and is excellent when you let other people use your computer, no matter what changes they make or trouble they get into a simple reboot will fix the problem.
