Are Verbatim discs now the same as Taiyo Yuden?

I read someplace that Taiyo Yuden is now the manufacturer of Verbatim discs. Is this true?

The place I buy from shows them to be different in their advertising.

I'm very happy with Verbatim, but would buy the cheaper if actually the same.

Taiyo Yuden, CMC Magnetics, Moser Baer, and a contract factory in Singapore manufacture media for Verbatim. It all depends on which medium, which type of disc (only CMC and Moser Baer have licenses for LightScribe, for example), and which country of sale is involved. Sometimes the MID/ATIP code on the disc is not taht on the MCC/MKK stampers that Verbatim provides, and you can tell which factory is which by the factory MID/ATIP codes. For many cases, including most for DVDs, the factory uses the Verbatim/Mitsubishi stampers and you cannot identify the actual factory unless you know how to interpret the production codes unique to each disc. (It's too expensive to alter the ink-jet printers or laser etchers throughout each factory to conform to a "Verbatim" standard.)
