PS1 to PS2 Backup burning and CD questions

I really dont know how to Explain the first part but I want to Play a PS1 backup on PS2, I downloaded Metal Gear Sold from a site and in the .rar was an .img file, And some others, When I whent to burn the game with imgburn I was only able to select the .img file, Is that the right file?

Second question, PS1 games were made with CD's PS2 with DVD's If I want to play a Backup PS1 game does it HAVE to be CD or can it be DVD? ( -R for both of course)

1. yes, img is the right file
2. PS1 backups will only work on CDs. Never on DVDs. Whether you can get them to work or not depends on the modchip or bootdisk you are using.
