I have been using SubtitleWorkshop4 to synch the subs for my AVI files played back on my PC through MPC by using the timings/delay function.
It seems to work fine when viewed on the PC, and lord knows many AVI's are either 24/25/30 FPS, but this does not seem to matter as far as sub synch is concerned in MPC.
I almost always use ConvertXtoDVD (using 2:3 pulldown)to convert my AVI's to NTSC DVD if necessary, and all my subs played back on the PC are synched with 30FPS by default, even though, before conversion to DVD, many of these AVI's will be 24 or 25 FPS.
Will the synching of the subs change upon conversion???
If so, is it better to synch like with like on PC before transcoding and burning to NTSC DVD, or is it best to make sure the subs are synched to 30 FPS before conversion and inclusion?

Are you talking about text based subs, eg. SRT ?

Yes, SRT files only- does it matter? Just curious.

Well those text style subs only depend on the movie runtime.
They don't really care about how many frames there are as
long as the running time remains precise.
You can open it in notepad and see the time stamps.

It's quite common for a 25 fps version and a 23.976 version of the same
movie to have different runtimes. It's because the 25fps version,
sourced from a PAl DVD is 4% (approx) shorter (in time).

So as long as the subs match the your source file, you should be good.
