i have an actiontec gt701 wg dsl modem and an asante friendlynet 8port 10baseT ethernet hub.

the problem is that i cant get the modem to recognize that it is plugged into the hub. when they are connected the light on the modem representing the Ethernet connection remains unlit. i know for a fact that all the cords are in working order, and that everything is plugged into the appropriate places.

i am trying to set up a small home network for my family and the modem will connect when it is a direct line from the modem itself to a pc. but it will not recognize when it is plugged into the hub.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe daft reply reine but the device will remain unlit until you attach a powered up pc with tcp/ip enabled.

You don't need a router, when using DSL modem? I do with my cable modem. A hub won't work.

yah i already had powered up units on the network. and i had a similar network at my mothers house, where i only used hubs to use the internet connection on more than one pc. but for some reason now the same concept wont work with this dsl modem.

and as tho the not needing a hub, i do because i have 6 computers and they are positioned around my house so i need a hub to connect them all to the internet.
