Help please HD PVR and DVD HDD recorder!

Hi all, got an HD PVR with HDMI but don?t know which way would be best to connect it to a DVD HDD recorder with HDMI? I have tried using the HD PVR component output to the DVD HDD recorder component input, then using the DVD HDD recorders HDMI out to the HD TV. Unfortunately no signal is detected. The DVD HDD recorder is capable of upscaling SD signal to HD. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
