I have a laptop, a desktop and a modem with a router,
And I never had this problem before..

I have this "There is an ip address conflict with another system on the network" message on my laptop when I'm on the Wifi in the living room..

After googling and reading on the topic..
I disconnected my modem and my router.. Waited about 30 minutes, re-connect everything and it was fine for a bit.. but then again.. Got the same problem..

I also did the ipconfig release renew thing, didn't work either..
Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you

Ana

hmmmm.. sounds very much like you have somebody trying to get an ip on your wireless network, or a misconfiguration (dropping connection and reconnecting before the router is timing out). Hope you use wpa-psk setup not a standard wep.

The best way to lock them out is to set up your network static and only assign ip's to trusted machines (most routers will allow you to actually assign a specific ip to a named machine.. and no other connections at all)

Windows XP 64 bit edition, or media center edition suffer from IP ghosting.

Where the OS actually creates two of the same IPs on one computers WLAN card. it first appeared in windows XP Pro and was fixed with a update too the Zero Configuration utility in SP1.

for some odd reason it only happens too wireless.

As of right now there is only one option for Media Center Edition, and thats to use the Wireless Card manufactures WLAN Configuration Tool.

but then again if you live in close proximity of another person, like if you staying in a college dorm or next so somebody with a wireless router it is possible there trying to connect to your network accidentally or on purpose.

i used to love riding around finding un-secure wireless connections, and leeching. after i was done leeching i would leave a notepad file on there computers saying that there network was not secure.
