Came in to work today with this fun set up on my bosses computer. It kept "restarting" and displaying differnet BSOD errors. It took me a couple minutes, but I realized that this was the BSOD Screensaver. I also noticed it has a pop up at start up for Antivirus 2008 to install. The Desktop is replaced with an image displaying detections of 2 pieces of spyware: Win32/Adware.Virtumonde and Win32/PrivacyRemover.M64. From my understanding these are also part of Antivirus 2008. I ran Adaware and Spybot and they really didn't remove/find much. I can't access the desktop image or screensaver settings through display properties. Its nice to see they are coupling the BSOD Screensaver with virus/adware now. Its much more convincing to people who know little about computers.
Anyways, here is my HJT Log:

@greekave,
The BSOD screensaver is NOT a virus. You can get it from Microsoft. It is, however downloaded to you, without your permission, by Trojans and the Rogue AntiSpyware 2008 in order to scare you into buying their Fake software..
Do the following:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
? At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
? If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
? Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan , then click Scan.
? When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
? Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- Don't forget this.
? When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
? Please post the MBAM Log and a fresh HJT log in your next reply.

That took out a bunch of Trojans and the wallpaper hijacker.
How is it doing?
can you set your desktop wallpaper?

The desktop is a blue background now. There was a background image set before. I can now access the background and screensaver settings thanks to the removal of those registry keys.

I think I had the same problem two days ago. First, the tab options to change wallpaper and screensaver disappeared (even now they're still gone.) I also got the BSOD and the wallpaper saying I got two viruses, but I don't recall what they were.
I think it messed up my firefox browser as well because when I tried to go to sites to download Anti-Virus programs I kept getting directed to other irrelevant places. To get around that, I downloaded the Trial Version of AVG with another computer onto my flash drive and installed it on this one. It ran and got rid of some viruses, malwares, spywares, etc.
Now I dont see the warning window wallpaper or the BSOD anymore. But if my pc is inactive then there'll be a screensaver that looks like I restarted my pc even though I did not. In additional to that, the computer keeps freezing every 20 or 30 minutes. Helps would be greatly appreciated.
