Nero 8 codec changes hamper media player & real player playback

Installed Nero 8 trial version and now mpeg-2 files will not play with sound in media player or real player. Tried uninstalling 8 trial and reinstalling Nero 7 ultra but problem still exists. Most of these files were generated in Nero 7 and played perfectly as did mpg2 files generated by tv tuner recorder until the Nero 8 trial install. The software from the tv tuner (avermedia) still plays all files properly - both their own and the nero files. I noticed that Nero Show Time wouldn't even play the tv tuner mpg files with sound and it did before with 7 ultra.

Anyone know of a solution? I assume these changes were made in the registry, but what I found there for codecs doesn't identify anything specifically.

I've tried reinstalling Media Player and Real Player and tried installing an mpeg2 filter, but nothing seems to work. As usual, getting a reply from Nero support is impossible.

Real Player support suggests that the trial "locked" the codecs and installing the retail version would unlock them. However, at this point I'm not crazy about buying the upgrade unless it's certain the problem would be corrected.
