I recently purchased an iPhone 3G and I would like to hack it and put games and other applications on it. I have researched a bit and I have found out that the 3G is now hackable. I just wanted to learn more before I start doing it so I don't brick my iPhone.
Is jailbreaking and unlocking the same thing?
Where should I go look to find a good guide showing me step by step on how to unlock my iPhone?
Thanks a lot!

I bought the iPhone in Canada. So are you able to jailbreak the iPhone 3G or is it just for the other models right now?

pwnage tool for the newest firmware 2.1 is out. I just jailbroke my 3g iphone for the 1st time the other night with it and I must say its awesome. I have the app store as well as Cydia and installer to get more 3rd party apps.
Its real easy to use just google it or watch a youtube video on it. Trust me Winterboard alone is enough to never go back to a regular firmware iphone again. Also MXtube is awesome.

you should probably buy one from AT&T, since it will be significantly cheaper, and than get it unlocked.

in that case go with the unlocked iPhone. Advantages are it will work with any GSM Carrier, like T-Mobile and AT&T, and other countries around the world. No Disadvantages.
