I think I'm having power supply issues on my desktop. It's an emachines t2245 (4-5 yrs old) that I added a dvd writer, extra HD and more memory. After returning from vacation, where I thought I had powered it down before leaving I couldn't power it back on. It originally had a 250W power supply. I bought a new one that was 350W Antec (I think) and it had a power switch on the PSU. when I plugged it in and turned it on cpu fan started, but the leds for the power and HD just started blinking and nothing booted and the power button on the computer was non-responsive. Not sure if I need a different PSU. The guy at Fry's seemed to think the 350 would work, maybe I need a different one? The internal hard drives are OK as I plugged them into an external case that I have a different drive plugged into. Any ideas? I expected eithe rno power or to have it boot up. I didn't expect the constant blinking. I have a 20-pin PSU connector while the unit I bought had a 20+4, so I just plugged in the 20, not sure if that is the issue, I had assumed it would just do either type of board interchangably.
you are right a 350 should be enough, you could try a 450 though. sounds like a psu issue to me to. it is not uncommon to get a bad psu. especially if it is a cheaper one. i would recommend exchanging it, before you go buying a new one.
