ddr2 1200 ram problem

Hello, wondering if i could get a little help that has been puzzling me for a week now. I just rebuilt my computer mostly because i fried my powersupply and was still using AGP. Well, the deal is that when i turn on my pc and check the Bios my OCZ ddr2 1200 ram reads as 667. I tried to adjust it to 1200 and then when i turn on my computer i get a blue screen crash everytime unless i turn it back to 667. Anyone have some insight on this problem?
Computer setup:
- Antec 900
- BFG 9800 gtx+
- Intel Core 2 Dou E8400 3.0Ghz
- Gigabyte DS3L p43 Mobo
- OCZ Flex XLC DDR2 1200 Ram
- Seagate Barracuda 500GB

Does your board even support 1200mhz RAM? Is it receiving the correct voltage? The motherboard is well built, but not really cut out for extreme grade RAM like the stuff you have - high speed OCZ memory often tends to be problematic at its rated speeds as well.

Yeah my board does support 1200, but as receiving it in the mail i read the box and said needs to overclock to get 1200 but when i tried that it did that blue screen crash.

Memory speeds for Gigabyte boards are usually set in multipliers. You didn't set your FSB to 1200 did you?
For example, the E8400 is 9x333mhz normally. To use 800mhz RAM, you need a 2.4x memory multiplier, for 1066mhz you need 3.2x and for 1200mhz you need 3.6x - bear in mind the board may not have these exact figures so get as close as you can without going over.
I think the memory multiplier is 2 by default, which explains the 667mhz RAM.

Well i actually set the fsb so it would get up to 1066. Not sure how to set the voltages...not sure if they are correct. O.o

My Gigabyte boards have had automatic voltage settings.
If you raised the FSB to get the RAM to 1066 on 2x that's a 533mhz FSB, which is miles too high for that CPU to manage (4.8Ghz!)

Go down to memory voltage and get it to +.4 for 2.2v pr whatever your memory is rated for. Remember you're adding voltage to default which is 1.8v.

Oh Dam, just lied... i actually only overclocked my Ram To 1066....so thats what didnt work out. I didnt try anything else.

Well you will still need to up the voltage and make sure your timings are correct for 1066mhz.

yeah
for 1066mgz you need to set the timings to 5-5-5-15 and the voltage to +.3v.

alright i tried last night. Timing at 5/5/5/15. Voltage and +.3 and multiplier at 3.2 so it was set up for 1066. Wouldnt boot. :(

g3cko - you have been sold the right memory I assume? It does actually say the RAM you have is the 1200mhz stuff? I've seen this before with RAM, companies sneaking out lower speed sticks hoping people won't notice...

Yeah i have questioned this also...I got it from Newegg.com and on the package it says 1200 so im hoping i got the right stuff. Might end up sending it back and getting some corsair 1200 or 1066 for a try.
