hi ,

i went to the local best buy store today to pick up a couple of 50 packs of verbatim dvd+r 16x . they were on sale for 12.99 each and i have never used them before and thought i would try them as they get such rave review's here on the forum . my question is this , they had several packs of verbatim 2007 dvd+r 16x and i found 3 packs of dvd+R 16 x from 2005 that were 3 years old , they were still factory sealed and never been open , i know like anything else usually older sometimes is better on dvd+r as they seem to be going cheap as possible now a days . but to be on the safe side i bought 1 pack of 2007 and 1 2005 verbation 16x dvd+r . they both have the same media code mcc 004 and the only differnce is the packaging is differnt and the top of the disc have differnt design's , the 2005 have verbatiom dvd+r 16x wrote on the inner hub were the 2007 do not . do you think the 2005 are ok to use being 3yrs old or were they sealed thay are ok to use , is the 2005 and the 2007 problay the same as they have the same media code . i am worried about the older one now as i think about and i need some expert advice . many thanks

I'm sure the 2005 discs will be fine. As long as they're sealed and have been warehoused in store. They'll be OK. I would use them 1st. Unusual to find these older discs. When buying Verbs, be sure to look at where they are made, made in taiwan are known good media. Made in india are questionable

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

I still have many (sealed) tubs of discs from 2005 that i'm slowly working my way thru. They have always been stored out of bright light but spent a year sat on the floor of a boat ie about 12inches under the waterline, so they did live in very cold plus very warm temperatures, with no ill effects. Hope that helps.

yes , they are made in taiwan , i made sure i checked that before i bought them . they code out as mcc 004 on both packs . i thought they would be ok as they have been sitting on best buy's shelf since 2005 so no extreme temp . i thought i would ask just to be safe . thanks

Yes Like The Creakster !!! I've lot's of media that's a more than a Few years old and I've never noticed any deleterious affects due to age as long as they are stored out of Direct sunlight Like the others said and perhaps not directly under a Hi -intensity Blacklight /Ultraviolet lamp if there is such a thing ? I would say that storage of Disc Based media should be similar to the store of Tape media and Vinyl ( Ooh ! he said Vinyl he must be ancient ???) IN that if You are comfortable Not to hot or too cold ? your Tapes , Disc, CD's DVD's and Blank media should d0 well ! I would also as a rule Avoid strong solvents in as much as cleaning your disc as they could & probably will ruin your disc - Peronally I stick with 91% Isopropol Alcohol It's cheap it works well & has'nt hurt any of my disc and it generally does'nt leave any residue behind ! You could use 70% Alcohol provided it isn't mixed with Food coloring /Dye ? sometimes green or Lanolin which they sometimes put in to ease the dry skin that alcohol can cause? Rule of thumb put a few drops on a clean hand mirror & let it dry if it leave any residue don't use it on your media! The residue can be lanolin or Minerals from the water that the alcohol is cut with? or lord knows what else ? In a nutshell _Keep them clean & follow the recommendations of the Other gentleman and you'll do fine CiaO!
