Anyone has rich experience with both 2.4x&8x media
(the 2007 packaging purple&blue not the 2006 blue&white)
Please share your 2 cents
which of the two gives you better scan results
I'm using BENQ DW1640 & PIONEER 115D
NEC ND-3550A
BENQ DW1640 BSQB x2
PHILIPS DVDR1648,DVDR1660
PIONEER 115D

TaiyoUser,
I've used a few of the 2.4x DL's and had no issues what soever. I think the scans were around 90 or so with Nero CD/DVDSpeed and the 8x averaged around 84 or so. NOT that much difference but I do notice a little difference using MIS and MII.
hth....
you might give hobbit112 a PM and see what he uses. IIRC he uses quite a bit of DL discs and he might better answer you question. ;)

as the Resident GM stated you want to get the MIS DL disc.from what i have seen around me locally the MIS are getting less and less. and harder to find.
as for the scanning. id say the benQ is your best bet to scan with. it will show the layer break in the scan.

And here I come a bumblin' through.....
TaiyoUser, alot of your success will depend on the burner(s) you use. The 2.4x and the 8x DLs are actually made with different processes and the older drives generally have more problems with the 8x discs. For your Benq DW 1640 I'd stick with the 2.4s. I have a DW1655 and it has problems with the 8xs. I don't have a Pioneer but understand they are good burners so you could try the 8xs with it.
For the 2.4s, look for the MIS (Made In Singapore) discs. You should find the "Made In" verbage just above the UPC code. If you can't find the MIS discs, go for the MITs (Made In Taiwan).
You might want to steer clear of the MII (Made In India) and any other locales I didn't mention above. More people have reported issues/problems with made in India discs and they might be more burner specific.

Where are you from?? If from the USA you should be able to look at any Memorex DL package and it will indicate MIT right by the UPC. ;) Well of course if they were the ones MIT. lol.
