I have a legitimate copy of XP in my pc that came with my Acer PC 18 months ago, but I had no disc it was already in but it just told me to make Acer back up discs of which I did and there is 7 all in all, I dont have a clue what they are for tho, but I am having loads of probs Can anyone tell me if I uninstall it all and wipe my computer clean if I can put it back in from my legit XP number and how would I do it ? or do I have to use the discs someone told me the discs are no good it is just a back up, I,m not very up on all the tech stuff so a simple guide will be helpful. Just want to clean it all out get rid of the crap and start again.
As it wont let me download Microsoft updates never had any probs with it before, it started playing up in the last couple of months have checked for viruses , disk clean up and defragged it etc but dont know what else to do, please help I'm desperate.

hi,

these back up discs you have, are they bootable??

or do they just contain data and such?

also what are the specs of ur system and particularly your motherboard?, that may help if the discs you made are bootable.

before you do anything else you might want to get the free "paragon drivebackup express" and use that program to backup your c: drive. The program will make a bootable backup (that means you can restore that backup into a new hard drive and it will boot up the computer). This way no matter what happens at least you can go back to where you started.

Since your unsure of the original backup you made, you might want to do another one. And also check in the directions of your computer if your computer has a recovery partition. That will make the recovery as simple as pressing a button when the computer is booting up. Either way use the free paragon to make a bootable backup as insurance to get you back to your current configuration in case something goes horribly wrong.

One more thing you can try is to remove your original hard drive and install a spare drive to run your restorations from the cd's that you made.

I'd get on the phone to Acer and see what you achieve. In my experience manufacturers charge for a replacement windows disc....
