I think I may have been very stupid. I have a SATA raid 0 setup using two SATA 2 HDD's, and it's just dawned on me that all this time I may have been using SATA 1 cables. There's nothing on the cables to indicate that they're either SATA 1 or 2, so is there any other way of checking what cables I'm using through vista or the bios? Am I worrying for nothing, or have I made a stupid mistake (since they probably are SATA 1 cables)? Will it makde a difference if I change them to SATA 2 cables?

Thanks for any help in advance, Lloyd.

sata1 = sata150
sata2 = sata3

as far as i know, there are no difference in cables; it factors down to the mobo and the hdd.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

I'm pretty sure there is a difference, many are labelled as SATA I, and many are labelled as SATA II, with their respective throughput's indicated. I think I'm just going to buy two SATA II cables and replace my old ones, even if they are the same, just in case.

All I'll say is this - S-ATA 1 tops out at 150MB/s - if you can get a single hard disk to pull that off you let me know. Last I recall, the Velociraptor is top at 120.

I agree with you 00lloyd, while I'm not an expert, I feel since you have gone to the expense of buying SATA II Drives, it is worth the additional expense to get the SATA II cables to take advantage of the greater transfer rate. Below are some data regarding transfer rates with a link to the original source and another link that you might find useful for the future to: Ask The Storage Expert: Questions & Answers.

Quote:
Serial ATA will have initial transfer rates of up to 1.5Gb/sec. Serial ATA II, arriving in 2004 will have 300MB/s of bandwidth, growing to 600MB/s around 2007 with SATA III
