Hey guys,

I just started college recently and Im taking a film class. Im thinking about purchasing a laptop so I can edit my footage with. Ive been looking around, and noticed most laptops have 4-pin firewire port.

My question is; Am I able to transfer footage with a 4 to 4 pin firewire cable?

Im planning to use Sony Vegas and the camera Im using is a Samsung SC-D363.

I have a firewire card for my computer, and its a 6-pin, so Im just curious if the size of the pin matters or not.

If that Samsung has a firwire output, then you will need a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable.

Once you get your laptop, you will need to a 4 pin to 4 pin firwire cable.

Edit: It looks like that video camera may record to a chip. Can you confirm that? If so, and there is no firewire port on it, you don't need firwire, but your computer will need a reader.

Yeah the camcorder I have can record using a SD card, but I dont want to convert the format from MP4 to a different format.

And so its possble to transfer footage (Logging and Capturing) from my camcorder (thats a 4 pin) to a laptop that has a 4 pin?

If the camcorder has a firewire port, then it should be possible.
