2GB RAM problem...

Hi there. Not too long ago I bought 2 1GB sticks of RAM for my FOXCONN P4M800P7MB-RS2H motherboard. Upon purchasing this RAM, I thought my computer would be SUPER fast. My friends Sony laptop with 2GB on Vista is 10 times faster than mine. Surely that shouldn't be? I'm wondering what to do to get the maximum usage out of it? The RAM is a Buffalo Select stick. Here are the details of my processor:
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 3.20GHz 3.19GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM. It's not viruses or anything causing this problem, It's been like it even when I've completely wiped my computer back to factory settings.

it's the processor. celeron isn't designed for speed, and it's still a single core.

the best processor you can get is a pentium d. but you will have to find them used.

How would I go about looking to buy a new processor? Would any pentium D processor be compatible with my computer? Also why used? Would this be a good one: http://www.techstore.co.uk/browse.php?a=p&prodLineID=104752 ? Sorry for all the questions. I'm slowly learning.
