The RIAA Soundexchange Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The IFPI Are: The same anti consumer lot as listed above!

I love my Taiyo Yuden's, but i've got backups to make for a little person. I'll use Sony's or Verbatim for those. Hehe. Little people don't get my TY's.

Who actually makes Sony media? I may get some of these but need to know the media code beforehand.

ALLThe Sony DVD+R 16X media I have bought are Made in Taiwan & code as SONY D21. 1st Class Media! Equal to Verbatim in Quality and for those who "scan" them, you'll get a 90%+ quality score.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Sounds like they may be worth picking up. It seems like media in general is getting worse overall and one's choices for quality discs have become more and more limited. I've read that some Sony discs are made in Malaysia and should be avoided, but yet some are made in Japan (Ricoh?) and most in Taiwan. If someone could post more info about the 16x -R variants it would be helpful-such as where they're made, the code(s) and any experiences with them.

Overall, I will say this: IF you find Sony DVD+R 8x Made in Japan, buy them all! You won't find ANY Sony DVD+R 16X Made in Japan, but you might find Sony DVD-R 16X Made in Japan, it will say Made in Japan on the package, & you'll find a white octagonal spacer on top of the spindle. Buy them! Mostly what you'll find are The Sony DVD+R Made in Taiwan, these are Excellent Media! Get em! IF they're Made in Malaysia, don't buy them.
Sony, Made in Japan = Taiyo Yuden( Most always)

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

all the sony - r's at the local b.b. were made in malaysia. The + were still taiwan. They had the same price going as Staples and also 50 pk verbs for 12.99 so I got 2 of them instead.

I just called the 2 local Staples stores and unfortunately both stores' stock of -R media is made in Malaysia. At least I didn't have to bother driving there only to leave irritated and empty handed.

are sony discs ok? i've used some different discs in the last few months or so and they do ok but i would like to get something that will ensure good playback. i use these for data and movie backups. reading around here it seems that burning at 8x or so is ok and that's what i do most of the time.

bunnyrip thank you for the link and the information

it's just a hobby

Thanks for the heads-up about the -R Verbs at BB. I just ended up going there and buying some, and verified the yellow-wrapped Sony -R 16x 100pks are indeed from Malaysia. They had a lot more blue +R packs from Taiwan but I can't use those.

The Sony DVD+R 16x discs that are made in Taiwan are Top-Notch media! I have burned MANY hundreds and only had 1 definite bad disc. That said, I rate them as good as made in Taiwan Verbatims in the DVD+R 16x flavor. 99.99% success rate!!!

Why can't you use the DVD+R Sony? They are better IMHO. Is it a burner compatibility issue? Or a DVD player issue? If a DVD Player issue, you CAN booktype the DVD+R to DVD-ROm and your player will love them!
