Power adaptor/charger for Hi-Grade VA250D

My daughter had only had her new laptop for about 6 weeks when the charger stopped working, we were told by the catalogue company to return it to manufacturer with a reference number they gave us, after 4 weeks we still hadnt heard about a replacement manufacturer claims they didnt recieve anything so if we want new charger it will cost ~£45
trouble is hi-grade never seems to be listed on compatability lists and obviously i cant use the original as a guide, any ideas the charger i need and would one of the universal ones with 8 fittings be suitable???
