does a laptop burn the same quality as a desk top on dvd+r

hi ,
i was thinking of buying a laptop as they seem to be really up-graded these days and i was wondering if they do the same performance burning a dvd+r . teh one i was looking at had advd burner and i was wondering if they have them same performance burning wise as the desktop , would the quality be the same or less with the laptop . thanks

Only difference is that the burners in laptops are not as as durable as desktops. I had my dvd/rw drive fail and had it replaced. I still use the internal burner from time to time, just not as heavily. I now mainly use an external burner connected to my laptop to burn.

Yes They are the same technology just shoehorned into smaller hotter confines! so it stands to reason that given less cooling and less air circulation than you would have in a Average desktop a laptop dvd burner would not last as long given a steady Diet of heavy use ! But as the Others have said if your just using it for the occasional burn then their should be no problems ! If a laptops what you want or what you have 7 & you plan on doing some serious/high Volume burning Then Perhaps an exTernal Drive or Drives would be a better investment ?

I don't use my laptops internal burner as much as I used to. Paying to have the drive replaced opens your eyes!! When I use my laptop, I use an external burner, as I have one that is usb powered and works great. I mainly use my desktops burner for my burning needs.

In my experience laptop CD/DVD burners are crap, I have posted several other times on this forum about this, I consider my use of them to be very light and not one of them has lasted more than a few months, I believe computer manufacturers are well aware that they are selling these drives in their computers knowing they are inherntly incapable of doing the job they are supposed to do without failing after a very short time, and that they turn a blind eye to this as they know if they say the laptop can burn CD/DVD disks people will buy them.

Well, the dvd/rw drive that failed in my laptop had about 3-4,000 burns on it before it failed. It was a recertified laptop, so I don't know how many burns it had on previously. This newer dvd/rw drive now has about 150-200 burns on it. Don't know how many more I will burn on it, tho it may not pass 2,000.
I had a previous laptop that I gave to my brother to repair (the mounting cracked behind the lcd screen and also most of the mounting on the swivels was gone) and told him to keep it. That burner had in excess of 6,000 burns and was still burning like when I first got it (this one was brand new).
I don't know what brands your laptops were (both of mine were Acer and if I get another it will also be an Acer) but both of the ones I have had I put them thru some very tough use.

One was a Dell Dimension desktop, that burner failed at some point in the first 6 months. It was replaced under warrenty by me when they sent me a replacement, that replacement failed some months later I never bothered to replace it again.
The next one was a Hewett Packard laptop, the first burner in that one failed after just a few months and was replaced under warrenty by me when they sent out a new one. That one lasted about 6 more months then failed, this time they had me send the laptop to them. They replaced that drive with a new one, that replacement drive failed about 9 months later and is still in the laptop now, it reads cd's and dvd's but wont burn.
The last one is a Dell Inspiron Laptop I have owned for just over a year, the first burner in that one failed after 4-5 months and was replaced under warrenty, that replacement has now failed just over 7 months later.
None of those drives burned more than 20 disks before they failed, I used them occasionaly to install software from CD/DVD and watched a few movies on them, not many movies though maybe 3 or 4 at the most, and I occasionaly burned a buckup DVD thats all the use they had before they failed, very light use I would say.
