Hi to all!

My laptop hatdrive, which started life almost 2 years ago, has started to appear heavily fragmented when i analyze it using diskeeper, and its not just a few bits, but its nearly the entire drive that appears to be fragmented. This is starting to frustrate me, because i have to fragment it every day now, becouse it shows up to be heavily fragmented all the time. Even after, like ten minutes, i analyze the drive again, and there are think strands of red sitting there in the results window, and im wondering if theres anyway to stop it from fragmenting heavily all the time. sorry if this might be confusing, but i cant think of anyother way of putting it.

My psp life: TA-079-fw1.5 -> fw2.0 -> fw2.60 -> fw 2.71 -> fw2.80 -> fw3.00 -> fw3.03 -> fw3.11 -> fw3.50 -> fw1.5 -> 3.40OE-A ->fw1.5 -> 3.03OE-C [to try out the gta cheat device] :)(got bored) -> fw1.5 ->3.40OE-A -> cfw3.52M33-4 -> cfw3.71M33-2(got unstable) -> fw1.50 -> cfw3.40oe-a -> 3.52-M33-3 -> 3.80-M33 -> 3.90-M33

It shouldn't happen by itself. It may be full up, in case you won't be able to defrag it very well in the first place. Try using AusLogics disk defragmenter and see what results that gives you - remember to check the log at the end to see if any files couldn't be defragmented due to lack of free space.

I downloaded the Auslogics DDifrag and after defragging it showed that it did defrag all 351 fragmented files, but these files are what my other defraggers defrag, but its like they dont get defragged, by next reboot they have been fragmented again. And even after defragging, the same files i have noticed, start to appear bak on the defrag result lists. :S dont no if this is down to HD failier or something like that?

That's odd, if they're definitely defragmented but become fragmented by reboot, your HDD is either very very full, or there's something wrong...

That should be fine then, which files keep becoming fragmented? Could you copy the log of the defrag and post it here?

Almost all temporary files, almost all of those relating to firefox, I wouldn't worry about those too much. Clear your temporary files in both your web browsers.

Hmmm.. yeah, i think that all the firefox stuff is to blame. and if i add stuff to the hd from a cd or the internet, they get fragmented and show up on the auslogics defrager, so i have to defrag. i have a western digital external FAT32 hd, and that hardley ever gets fragmented, maybe the odd 1 or 2 files now and then, but i dunno if its down to the age of the drive? :S

I've never seen drives randomly fragment due to old age...

Hmm... dunno then. but im now aware that when i open firefox, the cache files and other components get fragmented straight away, and they show up on the Auslogic defragger. dunno if its the same for other files, but i now know that its just firefox 3 r2 that its files get fragmented after openning.
