Hi guy's, a problem here that some of you more computer savvy guy's might be able to help me out with...

Basically I've spent most of the night on this but I've got nowhere.

So a buddy of mine told me his pc wouldn't start up and asked me if I could take a look at it for him. I thought "riddled with virus ect" and a fresh re-install of windows would do the trick! How wrong I was.

So I loaded up a fresh install and updated the pc with the software he requested. I was just about to turn it off and give it back to him when I tried to re-boot it for the final time and bam! I got the same msg that he was getting "Windows cannot start, it may be due to a recent software of hardware change". So... I thought damn and reloaed windows on again and after awhile I get the same msg again!

So I thought I'd better open her up, well the fan on the processor was filthy to say the least so I cleaned it off and booted back up but still the same, windows won't boot at all.

So now I'm thinking the power supply. I checked the fan on it and it's working. There is not much air coming out of it though. Just a small amount of it coming from the back of it and from the inside of the pc there is basically no air coming from the power supply.

So I start digging for an old pc to get the power supply from it and try it in the problem pc.

I found a spare power supply but when I plugged it into the motherboard and the harddrive the pc wouldn't turn on at all! And also there is a connector missing from my spare power supply. On the motherboard there is a slot for a "P9", but on the spared powere supple there is no P9 connector.

Any of you guy's any suggestions on this please, it's drove me mad all night and I've got nowhere.

Do you guy's reckon it could be the power supply ? The pc in question is a "Philips Iqon", it was made in Dundalk in Ireland from Tesco, well thats all it say's on the pc lol

If off to bed now, stressed to say the least. All suggestions welcome and I'll check them in the morning.

Cheers guys :)

Pc is running for the past 4 hours atleast. The solution I don't know to be honest. I thougt I'd give it one more shot before leaving it. By googling the error code it said it "might" have something to do with drivers or software. So I re-installed Windows for the final time.

The only stuff I changed on it was instead of putting Office Pro, I put Office Enterprise, I changed the anti-virus from AVG free to Eset and used Klite codecs instead of others.

That's all I've changed and I havn't a clue on how that could make a differance. I'm by no means a pc tech, but I've formatted scores of pc's for family and friends over the past few years with no probs so I thought this was definitely a hardware problem.
It still could be, but for now it's working ok.
