I'm a casual gamer on a budget, and am contemplating buying a PS2.
I'd like to buy the latest slim revision (SCPH-90000).
There are a few Japanese exclusive titles that I'd like to play.
However, I'm not sure if I should buy a pre-modified system or not.
Obviously, the expense of a pre-modified system is at least double that of a standard unit.
With all of the advances in non-mod type hacks (FCMB), is a pre-modified system still worth the big investment?
I'd appreciate feedback.
I'd like to be able to make an informed decision.
I bought SCPH-90001 and a chipmodpro 2.0 from
modchip.ca (I don't really recommend chipmodpro 2.0 since modchip.ca
has been selling it for $45 w/ shipping when it should only
cost $5. chipmodpro 2.0 is a clone & it is the same chip as modbo 745!)
anyway, with soldering iron, flux and everything cost me
$129 + $60 (chip+ iron) + $7.15 = $196.15
soldering SCPH-90001 is near impossible even if you have
soldering experience. I dunno how professionals do it.
you make one mistake and there is no recover no matter
what you do. IC legs are smallest for this version.
anyway, my brand new SCPH-90001 stopped working after modification
attempt and after another failure, I'm about to start on my
3rd freaking PS2(version 15)!!!!
Over the past 2 month, I bought total of 3 ps2s.
I'm too scared to start on my third one.
I sincerely regret not getting a premodified ps2.
Get a used ps2 since ps2's last pretty long and they are
not as expensive as new premodified ps2s.
