Here's my issue. It took quite a while to download a 4.35GB file. I noticed that it was only downloading about half of the speed that it was uploading.

I followed the guide here at AD for how to setup the prefernces for best speed. Both upload/download are set to Unlimited in the bandwidth. I was downloading on my laptop via wi-fi.

Is there a way that I can set things up to download faster than I upload? I'm pretty new at this torrent thing.

Some assembly required.

Well you can look at how many seeders and leechers the torrent has before downloading... You get better speed if there are more seeders than leechers...It usually tells you the health of the torrent on the page you download the torrent file from...

Are you getting a green ok at the speed guide port test. Could your ISP be throttling, some here: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs what port, try Protocol Encryption: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674 Take this speedtest and enter your speeds, don't use unlimited: http://www.speedtest.net/ Or enter your upload speed at options>speed guide>connection type and it'll be set automatically for you. Just pick the number closest to your upload speed, up or down. If you want to enter them manually at options>preferences>connection, bear in mind that test is in kb and utorrent reads kB. To convert it, divide by 8 (1 kB = 8 kb) and then take 80% of the Upload to enter and all the Download.

@bandit008

It was actually a very healthy seed to leecher ratio. That is part of the reason I was so surprised by how large the difference was.

@mistycat

I will check on everything you mentioned tonight when I can get back to laptop as I did not bring to work with me. Thank you for the help, and I will post back as soon as i get it all figured out. Again, thank you for the prompt and helpful responses.

Thanks again Mistycat. After running a speed test and little extra-curricular reading, I managed to change a few things that seem to have made the difference. So, thanks again!

edit. my most humble apologies for posting a new reply as opposed to just editing the one above this. :-/
