Final Fantasy 8 PSP Problem

Hi I have a question regarding an issue with Final Fantasy 8 Playstation 1 game converted to play on the PSP. The issue is when i start a new game everything works fine until i recently started a battle and i used one of the commands and everything frozed. Is there a way to resolve this. I am currently running on a PSP 2000 model (FAT) with custom firmware 4.01

Ok i've updated my firmware to 4.01 m33-2 and i resolved some issues but it still freezes. Would changing the custom firmware settings or configurations do anything perhaps?
