I was having serious trouble with my computer. It kept restarting over and over on its own & error message would come up just after log on screen. Would keep asking if I wanted to try and restart windows normally or open in safe mode...etc. so finally, I kept pressing F8 to reinstallation of win operating system, probably stupid move on my part. i probably should have tried a system restore first? heck, i don't know. so of course I lost everything. I have a backup disk that I made with my trial Norton 360 in early August(!!!) and when I put the disc in, all these files come up with letters and numbers I do not understand. It asks me what program I want to use to open them and of course I have no clue. I tried w/microsoft word because maybe the file i picked was a document(???) and when it opens, it looks like its encrypted or something. Can I restore back to the point where I did the initial reinstallation? Can I ever retrieve all my pictures?
