I have been getting an error on opening windows applications and when trying to install some applications and games.
It states that:
c:\Windows\AppPatch\Acres.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
The last Windows update seemd to fix the problem for windows applications, but I recently installed Civ IV and it installed OK, but this error is showing again when I try to run the game, then the game crashes out.
I don't know when the error began, I can't pin down what I installed just before I started getting it.

Yeah, I posted it in the wrong forum, doh! Pretty sure it's not malware!
When I google it loads of regfix programs come up, so I'm thinking it could be a reg problem, but I don't want to pay £20 - £30 for a regfix program until I'm sure that's what it is.
