Vision 5 makes 2 output files instead of 1

I just used Vision 5 to import 2 dvd and edit them down to 1 [2 hrs of content total]. I had it set to High Quality 2 pass mode and Fit to Disk if that matters and I think other functions were on automatic. After spending all evening editing, when I went to the burn screen it showed 2 output files that seemed to be identical except 1 was 2 seconds longer than the other. It showed them as being only half size instead of 720 x 480, and said they would be poor quality at 2.2M/sec. In the end, I deleted the shorter one and the other changed to 720 x 480 at high quality 4.4M/sec. Can someone explain this? I only edited once and painstakingly went through the storyboard to confirm the times were right and everything in the correct order before going to the burn screen. Thanks
