converting blue ray to standard format?

hello all.... i am new to this downloading movies thing but the newsgroup i subscribe to has so many movies on blue ray format and i cant burn those to disc nor do i have my pc hooked up to my tv. is there any programs that allow you to change the format? most blue ray movies are 7 to 10 gig and i am burning on standard format on 5 gig dvd. please...... if anyone has any info for me please respond .... thank you.
