connecting a laptop to Dlink DIR 615 problem.

Ok I have a situation. I have a Acer 4720 with windows vista home basic. Just bought the Dlink DIR 615 n router. Good price for performance. Now my question is when I log in to my vista laptop going to check network connectivity it sees my Dlink network but it has an X saying that the network setting on this computer doesnt match network i'm trying to connect to. I've noticed Dlink network settings are not as user friendly as Linksys. Please if anyone has any suggestion on how to get my laptop connected let know.

disconnect the power & data cable to modem & count to 20. reconnect the power & data cable in that order.
