Im getting a new tv, and i was wondering if i would be able to use the tv screen as the computer monitor. I know others have done it before. My tv is a 42 inch Plasma. Its a Panasonic Viera and the model number is TH-42PX60U, just incase you need to know. I dont know if the tv has a connection for the blue computer monitor cable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I've just been googling for this, and it would appear this tv model doesn't have a PC input, so it's a no go...

I don't know much about S-Video, very rarely used it. I'm assuming your video card has a tv-out then ?.. Not sure if tv-out works well enough to use for a pc, any i've used were dreadful ie not very good resolution and headache-inducing..

Thanks for the link, ill look through it in a bit. I thought of something else though. I was taking a look at my video card and it's really nothing special. So im now planning on buying a new video card, one DVI input. Then i'll just buy a DVI to HDMI cable and hook it up to the tv. I'm sure that oughta work.

You can use ANY tv as a computer monitor, it all depends on your graphics card. I have a HD4870 and it has 2 DVI outputs, most higher-end gpus have 2 DVI outputs. I hook 1 DVI cable up to my monitor, and the HD4870 came with a DVI-HDMI converter so I run an HDMI from the other DVI slot to the tv. It's absolutely insane, you can watch movies, play games, do whatever on either screen.

You have one DVI cable going to your monitor, and one going to your tv?

S video will work tho you may need an adaptor from the graphics card to the tv,some graphic cards are is it 7-8 pin where s-video is 4-5 pin or whatever, the only issue you may find is picture quality maybe fuzzy when looking at icons & text, tho since you have plasma it maybe fine as i'm using an old 29" crt,i'd agree going the DVi route would give better results i would think.
I find it strange your plasma has no VGA connection, all the late model tv's like lcd & plas all have one.You can run dual screens if your card has two outputs which most cards have these days, either a monitor & tv,dual monitors or dual tv's,you can clone screens or have seperate desktops for each monitor,it's real freaky moving mouse from one screen to the next

I know man, i was pretty shocked when i saw no connection for VGA on my tv. And my video card doesn't even have a DVI connection! its crazy all my stuff is pretty new but it all sucks, hehe. But im gunna buy a new video card soon, preferably one with 2 DVI inputs.
Thanks for commenting.

If you tv has a DVI input than you may use a DVI cable, though DVI cables are incredibly thick, stiff, and usually short. A new GPU may come with a DVI to HDMI converter... If not you can buy one on ebay:

Or better yet, you can just buy a DVI-HDMI cable, and skip the conversion:

I don't recommend S-Video, but it would still work.
ahhh ok. Yeah, right now im just thinking of S-Video as a last resort. There still is some time before i actually get my tv, so in the meantime, im going to invest in a video card. Right now, if i get everything i need and everything is good, it looks like i am going to be using a DVI to HDMI cable to hook up my computer to my tv.
