I have a question for the forum. Is there a 'shelf life' on the movies i backup with DVDShrink? Heres my problem: The movie is "Star Trek II" When i put my backed up movie in to watch it ,plays fine, but for some reason, my DVD rom is telling me the disc is blank. Does anyone know what causes this? It was 3 years ago when i ripped my movie and i cant get DVDShrink to rip it to my hard drive it says [NO DISC],for that matter dvdfab, nor dvddecrypter recognizes my movie, even when i goto 'my computer' it says its blank. I put the movie on my hard drive to save my dvdrom from spinning for over 2 hours, now i have to use my dvdrom to watch it. But my pc is telling me the disc is blank. I try to be as efficent as i can with my dvdrom, i just want to watch it from my harddrive instead of my player..it would normally take 3 to 5 minutes to rip vs. 2 hours of spinning my rom..any input would be greatly appreciated

Your backups are only as good as the media it's burned to. This is not a DVD Shrink problem. This is a media problem.
Re-rip the movie and burn it on good media only.
TYs and Verbs.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

I agree with you all, but i thought Sony made pretty decent DvD's. My next choice will be Verbatim. Thanks for the advice and i apologize for posting this here in the shrink forum..i only saw cdr discussions as far as media issues. Thank You afterdawn addicts!! You have helped me greatly througout the years, i hope i can return the favor someday!

It's not clear to me how you can see the movie. The symptoms sound as though the disc was not finalized--that's why the DVD-ROM can't see it but the DVD drive that recorded it can. If a DVD player can read the disc, it is finalized; but it's not clear to me that you can do that.
DVDShrink cannot have a shelf life of itself because it's software and out of the picture once the recording is complete. (There is software that does have a "time-bomb" built into it, but the bombs only work on rewritable media, particularly hard drives.)
If no drive or DVD player can read the disc, then it is a bad recording due to any number of factors. A poor quality disc is only one of many factors--one of the less likely causes but the first to get the blame.
