I have two laptop computers I burn a total of maybe 20 disks a year and yet my HP Laptop's CD/DVD burner has been replaced twice in the 3 yrs I have owned it and the third one now fails to burn DVD's.
I also have a Dell laptop which I have owned for just over a year and its CD/DVD burner has already been replaced once and now its second one has now failed and I'm gonna have to get onto Dell about it.
Before that, the last desktop computer I owned was also a Dell and its CD/DVD burner quit working after a reletively short time of owning it, I dont burn that many disks and none of those drives have even come close to burning 20 discs before they quit working. Of those 3 computers none of the other hardware in them has ever failed and needed to be replaced while I owned them.
I find this to be unnaceptable how can computer manufacturers continue to get away with selling computers with these crapware DVD burners in them.

If you buy a stock Dell, or HP, you are going to get junk for burners. If you specify the build you want, prior to ordering in, online, you will get better quality components, if said components are available.

I wouldnt mind paying for a replacement burner for my Dell Inspiron laptop if I thought it would be a more reliable alternative I hate that they keep failing and they always seem to do it just when I realy need to burn one.
