Hi Everyone,
I'm using NeroVision 5 to capture video from a Canopus ADVC-1394 capture card. I'm capturing straight to MPEG-2 using either the DVD-Video Compatible default config, or a custom config.
Here's my problem: I don't like the quality of video captured with the DVD-Video config (audio is OK, captured as Dolby Digital 5.1). The max data rate for the video cap is 8000 kbps.
I created a custom MPEG-2 config so I could boost the data rate to see if that would increase the video quality. The max setting for the custom config is well over 10000 kbps, but I set it to 9800 kbps based on experiences with other capture software (I have no idea if this is a CBR or VBR because I can't find any way to determine it with this program).
Then I noticed that the audio setting for this config is greyed out. It just says "Stereo" and doesn't give a sample rate. Does anyone know why different audio options aren't available in a custom MPEG-2 capture config? Why is the audio stuck on "Stereo", and what is the sample rate?
I don't get this. I've peaked the video data rate above 9000 kbps with Sony Vegas and Ulead DVD Workshop 2, and neither of those programs limited audio options to Stereo only. I could get Dolby or LPCM, and the only limiting factor was whether or not everything would fit on a single DVD. Why is Nero Vision limited this way?
Note to purists: I've heard the suggestion numerous times that data rates above 9000 kbps can't be handled by a lot of players. My own experience is that I've never had a problem playing back any DVD recorded at those high rates on any of my players. No one I know who's played my DVDs has had a problem either. This is why I don't hesitate to set the data rate so high. Also, setting the rate that high and making it a constant bit rate produces the best quality I've seen in hack-recorded DVDs.
Thanks to all who took the time to read this, and have a good day!
