I've been burning DVD's using NERO 8 and Memorex Dual Layer DVD+R media made in Taiwan. I've burnt several copies of the same disk and they all burn successfully, but they don't play on all DVD players. These are players connected to TV's not on computers. On one DVD player it works fine. I can get to the menu and play the video. Same disk, on another DVD it starts playing, I see a screen with information, then it stops. Are there any settings that keep these from playing on all players? Are DVD-R's more likely to play on all players, or some special settings? Or is it just that some players won't play disks copied on a computer.
Thanks,
Al

Some older players do not like (or are simply not compatible with) the +R format. You can either booktype your +R disks to DVD-ROM when you burn them or switch to -R media.

Possible probs

1) if you are using dvd shrink, it is not compatible with nero 8
2) burner going bad
3) burner needs a firmware update
4) burning too fast (no more than 1/2 of speed rating on disc)
5) poor quality media (I prefer Taiyo Yudens)

A good solution

6) the great advice given by brother ferguj
7) dvd-r at times is more universally playable on stand alone players, but when dvd+r is booktyped to dvd-rom, it is nearly universally playable

The BPI Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The RIAA Soundexchange Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The IFPI Are: The same anti consumer lot as listed above!
The MPAA Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, DISNEY, PARAMOUNT, FOX.

That's just the way it is. There is no such thing as 100% compatibility. You could try better DL discs (Verbatim) and or buy a newer burner. New burners set DL +R to DVD-Rom automatically. For movies you must use DL +R. It is also best to do your final burn with ImgBurn (free) instead of Nero. For SL discs -R is still the wisest choice.
