Hi K.Hammett,

I have done some searching about your issue and it seems that this is probably hardware related. Suggestions made were as follows:

Quote:
First thing you want to do is:
1. Cancel the "Send to Microsoft" request. MS has never intended to answer these, they are just gathering statistics.
You do this by going to System Properties (Windows key + Pause key)
then to the advanced tab and then error reporting button. Click on "disable error reporting" and OK. Then go to the Settings button under Startup and Recover, Uncheck the "automatic restart" under system failure. Then OK your way back out.

Now when the computer fails, you should get a detailed message about the error causing the failure. Copy that error exactly and post it to this news group. Someone can then point you toward information needed to fix the problem.

Now since you mentioned that you just replaced your hard drive is that something that you did yourself or did somebody do it for you?
Maybe something is not seated properly? Anyway let us know what you find out it; seems your going to have to do some tinkering around in there. Keep us posted.

yea i replaced my HDD from ide to sata a few weeks ago and installed fresh xp on it. i have used alot of scanners on my comp, the latest one i use online was the windows live one care or something like that. it picked up a trojan called killfiles it got rid of it and it hasnt happend again since then but am not counting on that trojan as the prob

Hi K.HAMMETT

Check this site out: http://www.barrett.net/xpmemorydump.html
It might help.

What happens is that when your games crash, they crash in grand fashion. You can disable this grand fashion with the site I listed, but as to the reason of the crashes, that might be the trojan.

Best Regards :D

hi there, i followed what it said on that website and my comps been fine for a good few days now until now. i was playing stalker clear sky for a good few hours and it blue screened me. i know the game itself is buggy or so i have heard but it uses its own bug report so i dont see y it has blue screened me. it hasnt done that in a while since the last post with the mem dump off. what do you think?

Sounds like a heating problem to me! If everything runs fine until you start playing games (traffic load increases) then this could very well be your problem.

Try SpeedFan to monitor your temperatures:

Hi again K.Hammett,

Sorry to hear the problem still exists. Although I wonder did you disable the "automatic restart"? And no disrespect to others but how can the problem be narrowed down if the dump is set to none? It seems that we are just fishing in the dark then. Without some details it could be a number of things causing it. Did you open up your comp to make sure everything inside is connected properly; nothing is loose? I still think it is possibly hardware related. Let us know what you find out. Good luck.

Hey K.HAMMETT

I suggest just letting it sit out and see if the problem will repeat itself. If it does, we will have to narrow it down, whether its the game or the computer.

Norton s*cks; get rid of that bloatware cr@p... don't mean to be mean but Norton is a resource monster.

Get something like Avast or AntiVir which are free and are just as good if not better than Norton.

argh dont worry about it. i know its pritty crap, i have pritty much tested all of them. it just annoys me that i havent found an antivirus that will get rid of everything. i get some crap coming through my computer at times just from going on the web. every so oft i have to wipe n install windows if it gets too bad cause i always end up with something that seems impossible to get rid of and messes my system up.

Hey K.Hammett

Antiviruses do not catch everything. The main threat on the internet nowadays is spyware, and you should get an antispyware program to protect your system against spyware. An updated browser always helps.

And if any antivirus program can catch everything, it would be Antivir. Granted, the free version does not include spyware detection, but the detection of the free version is still much better than products like Norton or Mcafee. Here's a post I made witih the credentials for Antivir: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/701712#4269450

And how does your blue screen problem go? Does it still occur?

Best Regards :D

cheers, no it has'nt happened in a while since my last post saying it did. i have never come across it before so it seemed pritty new to me. it prob still is there but things have been turned off like the mem dumps that store the info for errors and things. it first started off when i was updating neverwinter nights 2 through the autoupdate. it would crash and blue screen me. it eventually got better and updated it. then it started on grid loading it up then stalker CS. but i noticed when i installed windows on my new drive all the updates installed but the netframe work 3 update kept failing. never had any updates fail either. so then insted of using the ms updater i did it manually on there website. it worked then.

just weird how i have not had probs like this before that are cropping up. cause like i said. am pritty tired of wiping my comp and fresh start every other month because of antiviruses and spyware getting in.

i will look up that antivirus thing. thanks once again

Something which seems to have been overlooked.

You changed from ide to sata. have you suspected the sata cable? First thing I would do is replace that and then check how the ram is seated. It could be a stick of ram is going out.. possibly just a few memory addresses which won't affect normal day to day running but will play havoc with games and especially updates, because they tend to use absolute memory addressing rather than proportional..
