Dont we have the right to know where our media comes from? Look at food. The FDA set cerain guidlines for food. Shouldnt Our cds/dvds/blu's be marked in such a way. ONLINE OR NOT. Because i for one am getting tired of bad batches. Vietnam for instance. The most disgusting batch I have ever seen. If this were made possible, i would probably only ever buy japan, singapore, maybe even taiwan. My last taiwans were awesome! WE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!

I DO! 99.9% of the time. I thought i would give Ridata a shot. Got 2 50 (CDR'S) packs. One from vietnam, and the other (AWESOME) from taiwan. The vietnam batch had green splatter on the recording side, and imperfections in the recording dye on ALL DISCS! Very disappointing.

Your best bet is to stick with what works best for you. If you find a deal that seems to good to be true then it probably is. Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are the safest bets.

And India.

I don't think the price of Ty's and verbs is worthwhile for day to day use.. BUT.. I look at where the mid priced ones I use are made, and then make an informed choice.

I LOVE TY'S. Use them all the time. SPENDY. But love them. I didnt wanna believe all the bad reviews ive heard about ridata. Looks like some get good some get bad media. I got Both. hmmm... what are peoples thoughts on PRODISC. I have a maxell disc (GOLD/COPPER finish) That had a VERY GOOD quality scan. One of the best ive seen. Its MID is that of PRODISC. I found that VERY interesting.

prodisk=rebranded cmc B grade media.. some are very good.. most are garbage... If you get lucky some are reject Ty's like Tuffdisk can be, but most are rubbish.

I use a lot of ritek/ridata.. I look at the packs because I don't ever buy disks online.

Ehhh... Believ me. I would rather buy in a store. But their sooo much cheaper online. Supmedstore, meritline, newegg, etc. And walmarts a joke. atleast mine. They only carry sony (OK), Memorex, and maxell. Officemax carrys verbatim, but their spendy. I wish that Etailers would just give us that LITTLE TIDBIT of info. Made in china is invaluable info. LOL

Depends where you live.. If I tried to buy online I would either have to sit in all day for a week waiting for the post which can arrive any time between 7.30am and 6pm or risk them being left on the doorstep on a main road... or worse still.. taken 6 miles away to the depot. I only buy in 25's because they seem to be better overall quality.. and a duff spool is only 25 and not 100.

Running samsung disks right now... haven't lost one since the first 1 or 2.. which was probably my fault while I was testing them for max burn speed. Made in India.. but they seem ok-ish.

Ive heard that 25 packs 50 packs and 100 packs vary before. Didnt believe there was a difference. But i suppose its QUITE possible. Depending on how a factory is setup. Myself, Ive never had a problem with Verbs or ty's buying different packs. HOPE I NEVER DO! Gotta love mass production.

I buy roughly 90% of my disks online. I have a mall right across the street from me, and a best buy 3/4 mile away. I buy verbs when they are on sale at the store, but I prefer to buy online...love the no tax and free shipping!!

As a few in here know, I prefer TDK's, as they have been very good for me since I first got them. I have bought a few hundred ridata's from newegg.com (kinda hard to pass up $21.99 for 100pk with free shipping) and have had good luck with those also.

Where i live the brick & mortar stores are robdogs with their prices so i always buy online. I only buy in bulk though, to save on shipping (or better still i wait 'til i'm buying something else with free shipping and then add the media).
I've got far too much in stock at the moment to justify looking for any more for a long time to come :(

..but to answer the OP's question, yes we should be able to know where the media comes from. One place (in the UK) you can find out where media is from, is www.svp.co.uk - they state which MID codes apply to the various discs they sell, so you can figure out fairly easy what you're buying.
