I was browsing this forum to find good deals on buying TY media in bulk. After reading various posts I have come to the conclusion that the 8x media that is "inkjet printable" is nearly as good as the 16x silver media.

I tried to search for printers that are designed to print on DVDs and only came up with a couple of things. Like the Epson 200 and 300.

I'm looking for something cheap. I won't be using it for anything but printing DVDs.

Thanks in advance.

In Canada a genuine cart is between eighteen and twenty dollars each.
The iP4500 uses four photo and one text cart.
I refill for a fraction of those prices and use a cartridge chip re-setter (although that is not strictly required).
This was the first print;no tweaking or alignment setup adjustment - any dust marks you see is because the CD was a Ritek coaster that was bouncing around waiting for me to use it for a test print.
You can see at the edges that the settings weren't spot on yet.
I looked at a recent HP model that looks like it cloned the Canon carts and cart holder.

Why don't you guys use a Continuous Ink System (CIS) instead of regular ink cartridges. It's way cheaper than using cartridges, since it's just about $130 for a good one with shipping, and it comes with the equivalent of ten ink cartridges per color. For my Epson R280, that is 60 cartridges worth of ink in all, which would cost $1200 @ $20 per cartridge. Here is a link to a good one on ebay for the r280 : http://cgi.ebay.com/Epson-R260-R280-R380...1QQcmdZViewItem

My problem for CIS is lack of room for one and also 5 printers going possibly 6 [looking at the Canon] you can see the expense.Chris

It doesn't really take up that much extra room, and the amount you save in ink completely justifies the cost. Besides, what do you need that many printers for anyway.

I found what I was looking for.

There were several things on Amazon and such that were ok but I decided to go to a bunch of local retailers and I found a HP Photosmart D4360 yesterday on sale at Office Depot for $69.99. This is great because I already have an all in one printer and really only plan on using this to print onto DVDs.

I also purchased a 200 pack of TY inkjet printable DVD-R.

I'm just hoping that I can get a reasonable number of prints out of each cartridge. I'd be happy with 50 but I have the feeling that it will be more like 20.
