Help with Blu Ray Player

Hey everyone, this is my first post on the site. It's an awesome site for guides and information. I have an .mkv file that i wanted to put on a regular dvd-r and play it back in my blu ray player. The file is 1080p .mkv so i followed this thread,

After doing this the burn was succesful and i put the dvd into my blu ray player it shows now loading like a blu ray and then it goes black says play on the machine and then says stop and goes back to the blu ray menu. Blu ray is panasonic DMP-BD30. I have only 25 minutes of the movie and i plan on burning the full movie on to dvds, if i can. What could be the problem? Thanks again.
