Hi there,

I am new here and it seems like cdavfrew knows how to get rid of this virus.

I read in one of the hundred threads that this fixing should be supervised.

Following the advice, I hope you are available at this time since I have spent all my work day trying to figure this out.

Here are the symptoms:

- VIRUS ALERT message in system tray and multiple unknown icons
- No Restore point available thru System Restore
- Two porn shortcuts on Desktop
- Multiple pop-ups
- MC AV icon in Control Panel and system tray
- No access to ALL PROGRAMS and LOG OFF items under START UP menu
- No access to any drive, external or not (C:, E:)
- No access to Program Files (ie. Windows or Outlook folders, and where this virus may be residing) other than some from Startup menu

*Under WINDOWS XP SAFE MODE some of these are back to normal

Steps made as ADMINISTRATOR:

- Deleted porn shortcuts however, they come back afterwards
- Uninstall PCHealthCenter and ffddshow software under Program Files from Startup
- Running PandaSecurity Online Scan; it's running for more than 5 HOURS already and the percentage bar has not moved from 13%. It definitely scanning as I see items in progress but, from the scanned file 2000th to the current, 94000th, the percentage is still 13%...maybe the virus is preventing from showing actual percentage.

I havent stopped scanning since it is underway and has detected 62 files infected and 57 vulnerabilities.

Please advise if I should stop this or let it finish (it may take who knows how much longer; I am killing the pop ups one by one so if I go to bed, these may clog the PC if I am not supervising).

Also, let me know if I need to take a different direction in regards to getting rid of the virus from my computer. I read a lot about this and I have downloaded recommended tools however, as mentioned it requires supervision.

Thanks for your anticipated help.

Hey hcb77

Now, please download ComboFix.
With ComboFix, at the download window, please rename it to Combo-Fix(.exe) before downloading it.

Please disable all security programs, such as antiviruses, antispywares, and firewalls.
Also disable your internet connection.

? Run Combo-Fix.exe and follow the prompts.
**Understand that things like your system clock changing and your desktop disappearing might happen. Do not worry, because all will be restored later.
? Wait for the scan to be completed.
? If it requires a reboot, please do it.
? After the scan has completed entirely, please post the log here. The log will be located at C:\ComboFix(.txt)

Do not click on the ComoboFix window, as it may cause it to stall.

Best Regards :D

Thanks for the reply.

I was reading more posts and I found one posted by you:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/702407

I thought to use it saving us time.

Here is the current status after running ComboFix, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and Advanced WindowsCare:
- Virus seems to be completely removed from computer as it is operating well
- Deleted al MicroAV files related

Please advise if the computer is safe now; I don't want virus to reactivate any time in the future.

* The only thing is visible about this attack could be the icon under CONTROL PANEL which is a shield named "MS AV". I am not sure if this comes with SP2 or it's related to virus trace. Please let me know.

** I am running "F-Secure online scan for Viruses, Spyware and RootKits" right now as a preventive action since, Pnada clogged last night and never finished.

Here is my HijackThis:

OK...few questions:

Where do I save Combo-Fix.exe? (Desktop, C:\,etc) and,
where do I run it under? (Safe Mode, Normal Model)

Thanks.

You have already run Combofix? In that case, just directly post the log here. It can be found at C:\ComboFix(.txt). I need the log to remove your control panel icon.

Best Regards :D

Hi, thanks for your reply again.

I got rid of the icon from Control Panel by deleting a file "MicroAV.clp" from the WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 (this was my last fixing step. Everything seems to be back to normal however, I am afraid it may regrenerate somehow in the future.

Yes, I ran ComboFix as the first steps before running the other fixing tools. Let me know if you want me to post the log still.

After running the online scanning program COMBO FIX appeared listed as infected and with a level of danger. Why is this?

Hey hcb77

Yes, what you did was right. No, I won't need the combofix log anymore. I do want a new HijackThis log, so that would be good.

Combofix uses malware-like tools to defeat malware, so it is of no worry at all if any scanner detects it. It is perfectly clean.

Best Regards :D

Thanks for the info!

Couple things I noticed are that under the C: drive I have new folders such as C:\Documents ans Settings\Administrator.AQ and Administratror AQ.000 and Administratror AQ.001 and DZH~1.OLY as well as new files such as ntuser.dat and others that may be spread out. Also there is an "application", I think, with sufolders and other date called "ERD NT"....I looked it up online as seems to be a Windows application...not sure.

FYI my computer name is AQ

Is this part of the attack and it's only traces? or is it a regeneration of teh virus? or is it part of the fixing when using all of these programs (ComboFix, HijackThis, Malware Anti-malware, etc.)

Also, when I boot my computer and log in on Windows XP, there is a DOS window that pops up right away but disappear very quickly...however, aftre the cleaning the starting up time length is way faster than before...but never had that DOS app run.

Last night, I experienced a "stand by" log off which was unexpected and unauthorized. It happened twice...not sure why. Although I say that logs in faster, sometimes I feel the computer is slower in processing requests.

Please let me know what your thoughts are about the scenarios I above described......and Thanks again for your time and help.

Hey hcb77

Please run HijackThis.

? Click on the button which says Main Menu, then Do a system scan only.
? Please wait for the scan to be completed.
? After the scan has completed, check the following entries.

Click on the button Fix checked

NOTE:: Close all browsers before fixing anything.

Please download OTCleanIt from HERE to your desktop.
Double click to run it. It will clean up the assortment of tools used during malware removal. When it has finnished, it will ask you to reboot so it can remove itself.

The files and folders you found are perfectly clean. There is nothing to worry about.

See if your problems keeps continuing. If so, tell me.

Best Regards :D

Followed the steps.

When running HijackThis, after clicking "Fix checked items", all the boxes and items disappear from the HijackThis list area. I just closed the application.

I am not sure if OTCleanIt was going to remove the other malware remowal software or their traces left within the drives, I ran it with no applications or browser windows opened.

OTCleanIt has automatically removed itself but, the other fixing tool software remain in my computer. The folders and files mentioned in your previous post, remain in my computer. I understand they are safe, per your post.

The DOS window ran again after the OTCleanIt reboot.

Would this mean that my computer if free of danger from this virus regeneration or current virus infection?

Thanks for your advice.

Hey hcb77

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As") to download Silent Runners.

? Save it to the desktop.
? Run Silent Runners by double-clicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
? You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
? Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click the new text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Best Regards :D

Hey hcb77

Silent Runners is a program to see what startups when your computer starts. You say that a dos window opens, and this is not normal, unless there is malware present. I wish to see if anything is causing this to be the case.

thanks for your reply.

I understand...however, I am not sure if this DOS windows (which runs something in a plit second and then disappears) is or not notmal...maybe in the past, before the virus attack, it was running but because of other reasons I wouldn't notice it.

Here is the log after running SiletRunners:

Hey hcb77

Yes, you can uninstall fixing tools. Uninstall Combofix by going to Start>Run, and type in Combofix /u. Simply delete Silent Runners.

There are three different apps trying to get me to purchase thier scanners. I downloaded HijackThis and copied and pasted the list below. I also downloaded and ran combofix. I am still recieving these pop ups even after the combofix was ran. Can you help me please?

And Sorry, I'm having a hard time finding the combofix log from when I ran it. I looked in C: is there a way you can explain to me where I can find what you need? I'm not too good with computer lingo. Sorry.

Hey brinnybug

Please open a new thread, so as to not crowd up this thread.

Life is but a dream; you dont feel any pain unless you want to or you fall off the bed.
Success is relative; the more success the more relatives.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.
To be or not to be; thats a dumb question.
