Black screen when trying to install any M33 software! Help?!

I'm running software 3.52 M33-3 on a fat PSP.
But when I try to update the M33 software,(I've tried updating it to 3.80 and 4.01) when I click on the actual application (PSP Update ver x.xx) under the memory stick bit on the games menu it loads up the PSP logo bit and makes the sound but then goes black and the memory stick light flashes for a bit.
Is anybody able to identify this problem?
