boot problem with emachiens t6420
Power up Problem
i have an emacheines computer and it will power up but it won't boot direclty without a keyboard in the ps2 input.
the way that it does boot up is if i attatch and detach the mouse several times to get a connection.
the way i can tell if the computer will boot is when i see that indicator lights flash on five seconds after i turn the power on.
so i know it cant be me needing a new motherboard or power supply because everything works fine and is operational ie... cd/dvd roms usb inputs so on and so forth.

also a usb keyboard wont do the trick until after the system is started up.

need help. does anyone have an answer?

Mr.

If it boots up, with a keyboard plugged into the keyboard PS2 port, what's the problem? It isn't evident, because I couldn't understand anything, after the sentence about the keyboard.

the problem is, that i have to plug and unplug the keyboard from the port over and over again until i can boot up and see that the keyboard is recognized by the cpu.
the cpu will not just start up without a keyboard or mouse attatched like normal computers do.
i know that if any working computer have nothing attatched to any port exept the monitor the computer will still boot and you will get the message no keyboard or mouse found.
still, the computer should boot and if i have a usb keyboard attatched once the computer boots and finds the usb port upon going to windows, the program will find the p/p hardware.

who can solve this great mistery

Plugging and unplugging a keyboard while the PC is running is not a good idea.....there is 5V running through that plug, and damage could be done by continually doing this.

First thing I would do, as suggested, is try a new PS/2 keyboard. After that, check the plugs on the MB to see if they are loose at all (maybe broken solder joints), or the holes are worn out or rounded out.

I have some machines that act very similar here at the office. Once in a while they KB and mouse just quit working. After the shutdown, I need to pull the power cord from the PSU before the MB will recognize the KB/mouse again.
